MooD: what it does and who uses it
MooD supports the creation and exploitation of what we call
an 'enterprise business model' - a model of key aspects of a
business, delivering a connected collection of powerful and
highly informative views. The model offers valuable insights
into the dependencies that exist between elements of a
business, and gives a joined-up understanding of potential
changes or trades across the model. Such an overview leads a
business forward with fully informed and effective decision
making for continued improvements in performance. The model is
often referred to as a 'single point of truth' - a common
reference model that is viewed, used and communicated by the
entire enterprise.
Configuring and assembling a business model - using a
highly configurable composite architecture and metrics
framework so that business and technical communities can work
with models, methods and visualisations that best fit their
needs Synchronising with other data sources -
integration through MooD's 'activation' to ensure that
information from across the business is available and put to
work regardless of which systems and tools it comes
from Deploying into live use - generating web
applications (MooD 'Active Enterprise' solutions) that allow
non-technical business users to accomplish specific planning,
monitoring and decision making tasks affecting business change
and development
This combination of features enables MooD to support all
architecture communities typically found in major programmes
or organizations:
- strategists, planners and leaders in a business who
monitor the outcomes of previous decisions and evaluate
cases for further change
- enterprise architects assembling and sharing an
organization's architecture and roadmap
- individual architects carrying out design work on a
project
The components of a MooD Active Enterprise
Solution
MooD Active Enterprise offers the possibility of rapidly
encoding not just architecture standards, whether industry or
proprietary, but also methods and techniques that add value to
an organization’s strategic processes in the pursuit of
improvement or transformation in efficiency, cost or
performance. The differences between solutions are determined
by the selection of components, and how they are
configured.

Structure: a meta model for the Content and
metrics Content: the data that populates the

template models and dashboards along with navigation and
guidance to assist in using and exploiting the Enterprise
Business Model Permissions: the setting up of MooD
web users and home pages, and who can access what

mechanisms (activators) for getting content into and out of

to provide look and feel around the solution Active
Panels: interactive components that provide additional
functionality to MooD web users
MooD and Enterprise Architecture Frameworks
Salamander and its partners are using MooD in a range of

private sector with organizations such as Lockheed Martin, Scottish Widows, EDS and
National Air Traffic Services, and the public sector with
organizations including the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD),
Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Home Office, Learning and Skills Council, and overseas
defence organisations. We have established capability
